Hi there, I want to share something with you that has quietly changed the way I teach. For a long time, I believed that if I explained something clearly enough, my students would get it. But over time, I realized something important… Teaching is not the same as learning. So I began building a system in my classroom to make sure every student actually understands—not just the ones who get it the first time. In this week’s episode, I walk you through that process step by step. It’s inspired by the work of Robert J. Marzano and focuses on a simple but powerful cycle: Teach the concept And here’s the part that made the biggest difference for me, I don’t move on just because I’ve “taught it.” If students don’t understand, I go back and teach it again. Throughout the week, I: Use this FREE Tracker to help you track student understanding Student Understanding Tracker | Editable Progress Monitoring & Reteaching ToolBecause learning doesn’t happen on a schedule. Some students need more time, more practice, and more support—and that’s okay. This episode also connects to Psalm 1:1 and the idea that growth comes from returning again and again to what is right and true. That’s exactly what we’re doing when we reteach, revisit, and stay committed to helping every student succeed. If you’ve ever felt frustrated that some students just aren’t getting it, I think this episode will really encourage you. 🎧 You can listen to the episode here that explains it all! I’d truly love to hear your thoughts after you listen. This is one of those systems that has made teaching feel more purposeful and more hopeful for me. Praying you have a wonderful week and feel encouraged in the work you’re doing each day. You can also find me at Robin Wilson First Grade Love on Teachers Pay Teachers. |

Hi Friends, Today I'm kicking off a brand-new Science of Reading series on The Education Connection podcast! We're starting with one of the most important foundational reading skills: phonemic awareness. 🔊Simply put, phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate sounds in spoken words.
